Response to government guidelines on LEP integration

The government has published its 'Guidance on integrating LEPs into local democratic institutions', here LEP Network Chair Mark Bretton gives his initial response.

Response to government guidelines on LEP integration

“We welcome the confirmation from Ministers that LEPs will continue to play a key role in supporting local economies.  The Guidance issued by Ministers reflects a substantial programme of work up to 2030 and gives LEPs the clarity they have long sought, enshrining a clear role for local business leaders in the future devolution landscape. We will now work with government to implement the changes outlined and ensure that funds are allocated to enable this essential work to continue.

“The guidance confirms the future value and role LEPs will have in the devolution agenda and the contribution they will make to levelling up outcomes and supporting local businesses through LEP Growth Hubs. This includes embedding a strong, independent, and diverse local business voice in local decision making, developing strategic economic plans in partnership with local leaders, and delivering a number of functions on behalf of government departments.  We have a clear vision and direction and look forward to working with government on this exciting agenda.”
