More than 3,500 jobs created in Coventry and Warwickshire

More than 3,500 new jobs have been created in Coventry and Warwickshire over the 12 month-period to March 2018, according to the region's local enterprise partnership.

The figures show that Coventry and Warwickshire secured more than 50 successful projects during the period, with major investors including Amazon, Sitel, Arvato and Horiba.

The Midlands Engine attracted 243 projects which resulted in 13,138 new jobs being created.

Jonathan Browning, chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP), said: "It’s extremely positive that Coventry and Warwickshire continues to perform well in attracting inward investment.  Against the backdrop of the uncertainty around Brexit, our region has continued to perform strongly and attract major international investment, creating 3,500 new jobs and wealth.

"We’re pleased the combined efforts of the CWLEP, Coventry City Council, Warwickshire County Council, along with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and its partners, are continuing to reap strong results and strengthen Coventry and Warwickshire’s standing as a great location to do business and live."

Cllr Jim O’Boyle, cabinet member for jobs and regeneration at Coventry City Council and CWLEP board director, added: "We continue to be a very attractive proposition for inward investors because of our location, skilled workforce and other attributes including our two leading universities.  Getting a job changes lives – that’s why we work so hard with our partners to land these projects and it’s why we will continue to work with our partners to ensure that Coventry and Warwickshire is at the forefront of investors’ minds."

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: "There has been a concerted effort from all parties to make sure that we maximise our potential and to ensure that we are selling the undoubted attributes of the area.  That involves not only the commercial advantages but also the environment and lifestyle we can offer inward investors and their employees."
