Growing the UK's Creative Industries

On Friday 7th December, the Creative Industries Federation published its report on creative enterprises and growth.  The creative industries are the fastest growing part of the UK economy, contributing £101.5bn GVA - greater than automotive, aerospace, life sciences and oil and gas sectors combined.

Our findings are based on a sector-wide survey which received over 1,000 responses, a number of focus groups undertaken across the UK, and one-to-one interviews with trade bodies and support intermediaries. These findings have already informed a number of industry-led interventions, such as the Federation's new series of practical workshops, and will be vital to shaping future initiatives led by our sector, national and local government, and those who deliver business and financial support. Together, we seek to unlock the growth potential of our world-leading creative industries.

The potential for future growth is clear, and must now be unlocked. Despite the success story to date, creative enterprises - which make up one in eight of all enterprises in the UK - face major challenges that prevent them from growing.

This report aims to get to the heart of the issue: what do creative enterprises understand by growth, how fast are they growing, and what prevents them from growing more? It is based on a survey of over 1,000 creative enterprises, a series of focus groups undertaken throughout the UK, and one-to-one interviews with trade bodies, government, and support intermediaries.
